The Winery: Bründlmayer, Österreich

First rule in the Bründlmayer family is the respectful treatment of nature and fellow humans. A team of highly qualified employees are the backbone of the business – vineyards on the best sites of the Kamp valley the main asset.

Much care is invested in achieving a stable ecological balance in the vineyards. Chemical fertilizers are rejected; instead green-, mulch and compost-cultivation are used. Not least to activate soil organisms and let the rain worms go about their beneficial craft. Young plants are reproduced from old vines; paying close attention to genetic diversity, resilience and adaptability. A large segment is by now set up according to the Lyra vine training system.

The grapes are harvested from mid-September until late into November by hand. Then they undergo very gentle pneumatic pressing. Fermentation occurs temperature-controlled in stainless steel tanks or directly in wooden barrels. The wines mature in 250L wooden barrels; in some case, like “Käferberg” also in 300 L barrels made from Austrian oak or acacia.
Bründlmayer’s “Heurigenhof” – as Austrian wine taverns are named – is the top address for avowed hedonists!
