Situated right in the heart of the famous wine-growing community Freistadt Rust (Burgenland, right on the Hungarian border). In 1936, Gustav and Karoline Feiler bought the historic baroque mansion on Hauptstrasse, laying the foundation of the winery.
Today, 3rd generation Karl Feiler and wife Katrin cultivate 70 acres of the best “Ruster Rieden”, as the vineyard site is named.
Healthy soil and intact nature are the pre-conditions for vigorous vines and great wines full of character. We have always treated our environment, but also our products and partners with great care and highest respect. Changing to organic cultivation in 2008 was the next logical step in aspiring to highest quality and sustainability. Our range of wines includes the so-called “Ruster Trilogy” – from dry whites over red wines to fine sweet yields, headed by “Ruster Ausbruch”.
We almost exclusively cultivate autochthone grape varieties, that flourish well on the granite-gneiss-bedrock respectively shell limestone in Rust. Main red grape thus is Blaufränkisch, followed by Zweigelt and Pinot Noir. The spectrum of reds is complemented by the French specialties Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The focus of the whites is on grapes originating from Burgundy: Chardonnay and Pinot blanc. Austrian specialty is the old white grape Neuburger that thrives in the climate of Pannonia – the old Roman name for our region. Riesling Italico and Yellow Muscatel are vinified into great sweet wines.
